Te Tiriti o Waitangi recognises Maori as the tangata whenua of Aotearoa and acknowledges the importance of rangatiritanga: self-determination for people, whanau, language and culture.
The principle of partnership expressed in Te Tiriti is embedded in health policy and services; central to care is the Maori concept of health with the four dimensions:
f taha tinana – physical
taha hinengaro – mental
taha whanau -family
taha wairua -spiritual
The kaupapa of our practice reflects this- we work in partnership with our patients and their whanau to achieve the best health outcomes, taking into account all aspects of their health. All staff have undergone training relating to Te Tiriti and we have been brought up to date with strategies to achieve Maori health gains.
Recognising that Maori have often experienced barriers to health care, we are in many cases able to access extra funding for the services we provide; please feel free to ask us.
He ma nui ? H e tangata, he tangata, he tangata
What is important? It is people, it is people, it is people.
